hair-thinning

Why is your hair thinning?

Perhaps one of the first signs we have in androgenetic alopecia is our hair’s thinning, but why does this happen? Is there something that we can do?

Let’s remember alopecia

Let’s remember that the main cause of baldness in men is the hair follicle’s susceptibility to the hormone Dihydrotestosterone (DHT).

The follicles that are sensitive to DHT are mainly found in the upper part of the head, while the resistant ones are in the lower, somewhat like a friar.

What happens to the hair follicle?

Do you remember our post about hair growth phases? No? Well, it’s worth reading. DHT causes the follicle (hair root) to become thinner, decreasing its diameter and disappearing, as shown in the following image.

During the hair follicle’s shrinking process, we will notice that the hair grows smaller, thinner, more fragile and less visible. If some stimulation treatment, such as Minoxidil, Platelet Rich Plasma or Finasteride is applied, we will see tiny hairs grow right there, where the follicles were about to disappear.

Since the follicle is smaller, it slows down the cellular process of growth and retention in the anagen phase, so it will even fall out earlier than normal hair would have to.

Can we stop hair thinning?

Of course, we can stop the process of thinning and hair loss, but always with care and seriousness.

Many products could help, from shampoos, lotions, specialized combs with a specific laser frequency, to the treatments best tested by prominent laboratories.

By the way, forget about the shampoo made with happy babies’ placentas, green chili, cow feces, among others that only increase the laughter of those who recommend them.

Proven treatments:

Minoxidil: By dilating (increasing) the diameter of the arteries, it achieves better nutrition for them, so it helps the anagen phase of hair growth, thickening it a little and also preventing the smallest follicles from disappearing, promoting hair growth.

Although it is an affordable option for a large population it is not a definitive solution. It requires a lot of discipline because when the treatment is interrupted, the effects are easily lost. It gives the impression that the patient lost more hair than the one existing before starting the treatment.

Finasteride: This drug prevents testosterone from converting to DHT and helps survive the follicle and the hair. Many clinical studies put it above Minoxidil, but obviously, medical supervision is required.

Intensive treatments: The use of growth factors or other medications like serum infiltrated into the scalp are the most effective way to promote blood vessel formation, stimulate follicle function and thicken the hair. Our experts recommend 3 to 5 sessions, with intervals of 7 to 15 days between them. However, this may vary, depending on each patient. The results are progressive and visible 3 or 4 months after the application of the treatment.

Kaloni helps you strengthen your hair

In Kaloni, we know many people who notice hair loss start by looking for different shampoos. Those products are not pharmaceutical grade, so they help prevent the breakage but do not treat the follicle. Then people try vitamins, Minoxidil, home remedies. Some resort to hairstyles to disguise hair loss. Only when alopecia has advanced enough, they ask for hair implants or prosthesis. What an ordeal! So much waiting for something that you could prevent in time.

If you have noticed that your hair looks thinner and weaker, you are in time to prevent alopecia and get satisfactory results with an effective lifelong treatment. Get in touch with our experts.
