Holidays 2020: Some ideas to enjoy in the new normal

Many of us probably didn’t think we would make it to the holidays in the middle of the pandemic; we thought this would happen faster, and we can enjoy our meetings and dinners as usual. However, unfortunately, the numbers of positive cases of COVID around the world continue to rise, and we need to continue with the prevention and health measures recommended by health institutions.

If we found alternatives to work from home, do our shopping, and even do clinical assessments online, we can plan different options to celebrate Christmas and New Year safe.

We share with you some points that you can use to plan Christmas and New Year celebrations in this new normality.

1. Avoid crowded gatherings

We know how important these moments are to you and your family and that perhaps for some reasons, this is the time when you can only get together to hug, but we must be careful. Why not organize a party using a video call? Discuss the menu in advance, set up a schedule for everyone to activate their cameras, and even implement some online activities that are already underway so that they are not exposed.

2. Send the gifts through parcel services, online stores, or apps

At this time, we have known the great benefits that online stores offer, and although they have been around for a long time, some of us were resistant to this because of the feeling of security that seeing something in physical form gives you. There is no reason to discard the exchanges, have a virtual raffle to see who you will get a gift from, and make lists that you can share to do the shopping and send the gifts to each other’s home. Some stores have options to send a message and even wrap the gift.

3. Support small producers

Many small businesses have suffered: some of them have had to close down for good, and others have managed to survive with difficulty; let’s buy the producers we have nearby, whether it’s to make dinner, gifts, or the supplies we need to prepare everything at home. If we support each other now, we will be stronger in the future as a community.

4. Take care of the environment

During the last few months, we have observed how the Earth has been recovering its space when we step aside. It is necessary to think about what we have been doing without seeing around.

At this time of year, we use more electricity due to decorations.  To counteract this, keep the lights off that you don’t use, use energy-saving light bulbs, and consume products that you can recycle their containers or, better yet, bring your containers when it is possible to buy them in bulk. Small steps that help everyone.

5. Wear a mask and wash your hands constantly

If you end up deciding to meet with a few people for a small gathering, try to keep it open, with adequate ventilation, and avoid hugging. Also, remember that using your mask correctly minimizes the risk of contagion, so wear it when you talk and are waiting for lunch. Taking care of yourself takes care of others.
